What is emergency lighting?
Emergency lighting could be seen as one of the most important systems put in place to protect people in your property. It is installed to illuminate high traffic or at-risk areas in the event of a power cut (such as escape routes, high-risk areas, signage and fire safety equipment).
In the event of a power cut, the emergency lighting is designed to automatically illuminate ensuring these at-risk areas are well illuminated allowing evacuation of the building
Keeping the building occupants safe is obviously a high priority, so in an emergency, we make sure that you have an emergency lighting system that will not fail by regularly maintaining your systems in compliance with BS5266.
BS5266 Emergency lighting regulations, primarily governed by the UK standard BS 5266-1, require that escape routes be illuminated to a minimum of 1 lux, with open areas needing a minimum of 0.5 lux. Systems must run for a minimum of 3 hours in most buildings, though 1 hour is acceptable if evacuation is immediate and the building will not be reoccupied until batteries are fully recharged. These regulations ensure sufficient light for safe evacuation, covering exits, changes in direction, stairways, and hazard areas.
